Our board is made up of volunteers:
Elaine Golds, Ben Mackereth (Macka), Dave Bennie, Jim Mattson, Nancy Aichberger, Sandra Niven, Michael Vigurs, John Andrews (absent), Sophie Boizard (absent).
Dave Bennie, Vice President and Special Events: has been a member of the PMES for 15 years and is one of our most valued members. Dave has received two environmental awards for his volunteer work with the hatchery and other organisations in the Tri-Cities. His key role is as the Director of the Fingerling Festival and as the co-ordinator of the hatchery, ensuring that operations run smoothly and that our volunteers are always having fun and enjoying themselves.
Jim Mattson is the Laboratory and Water Quality Manager for the society. We are one of the very few volunteer organisations in Canada that does water quality testing, something we’ve done for nearly 20 years. Jim was a local school teacher and is happy to pass on his knowledge.
Nancy Aichberger, Programmes and Hatchery Operations: currently on leave
Sandra Niven, President: has been an active member since her arrival in Canada in 2007. She brings over 20 years experience in events, administration and office management. Sandra plays a key role with memberships and engaging our volunteers by arranging field trips and courses. Sandra often brings her young son, Alex, to the hatchery where he helps to feed the fish, rake the leaves, and plant trees.
Michael Vigurs, Memberships: Currently I am a student in BCIT’s Fish Wildlife and Recreation program. I’ve always been attracted to the outdoors and love to canoe, hike and camp in our beautiful province. I am particularly passionate about wildlife and nature photography. The PMES provides an excellent opportunity for me to foccus my energy in a positive way, helping to keep our community green and sustainable.
John Andrews is a key part of our society. As the Treasurer, he ensures that we are on track to achieving our goals. John has been an integral part of setting up the bursaries and the ongoing operations of the Noons Creek Hatchery.
Ben Mackereth (Macka), Secretary: has volunteered with PMES since 2008 and has enjoyed a lifetime fascination with the life cycles of all Salmonids. Ben has volunteered at, and supported, several conversation societies both in Canada & Australia, and has had magazine articles published promoting conservation of our waterways and fish stocks. Ben’s strengths include working with Eric in the hatchery to manage our Salmon & incubation of eggs and helping Dave to promote our society at various events throughout the lower mainland.
Elaine Golds – Past President: Elaine has and outstanding depth of knowledge of the local surrounds and is very happy to share this with our volunteers and members of the public. She has been a vocal and active member of the Port Moody Ecological Society since the beginning and we have been blessed to have her continue as a member of the board.
Volunteers play a key role in the success of our Noons Creek Hatchery. We love our volunteers !
