Looking at Jellyfish during our volunteer boat trip

Our volunteers recently went on a boat trip with Rod MacVicar and Ruth Foster around the Burrard Inlet, Port Moody.  We saw lots of wildlife including jellyfish, seals, starfish, and birds. We also got to see the sealion research being done at Reed Point Marina which was really fascinating.

We all had a great time and the weather was fabulous.  Rod and Ruth have a wealth of knowledge and experience which they happily shared with us.  They took us to look at the pontoon where they release their fish from Mossom Creek and along the shores right up towards Indian Arm.

They talked about their efforts to remove invasive species from our area and showed us the damage being done by plants such as ivy which has further inspired our team to organise a weed pull in June – see our website and newsletter for details.

We were shown where the eel grass was planted and what the future plans are.  There are plenty of opportunities for volunteers to get involved in bird counts, eel grass planting, as well as working at the hatchery.

Future events are planned for our volunteers including walks, BBQ’s, attending events such as TreeFest and Earth Day.  We would like to extend an invitation to everyone to come to our hatchery any Saturday morning between 9am and 10.30am.
