Environmental Awareness and Stewardship since 1991
Who are we?
The Port Moody Ecological Society is a 100% volunteer-based organization whose mandate is to operate a salmon hatchery and water quality laboratory located on Tseil-Waututh land, in the City of Port Moody. We work to foster a love of our environment through education and outreach in the Tri-Cities.
How does the Hatchery work?
We spawn wild salmon in order to raise Coho and Chum from eggs to fingerlings (young fish) before releasing them each May at our Fingerling Festival. The salmon then have a four-year journey in the Pacific Ocean before returning to our local streams to spawn.
How can you take part?
Want to volunteer with us? Stop by on Saturday from 9-11 to check us out!
Just want to see the work? The hatchery is open from 9-11 Monday to Saturday, and everyone is welcome to come for a visit, feed the fish, and learn about what our volunteers are doing.
Lab Work
Our lab does weekly water quality assessments of Noon’s Creek and it’s surrounding tributaries. We test for a variety of chemical pollutants as well as general stream health. You can view our lab work and other local streams on Pacific DataStream.
